Proverbs 28:13-14 (NLT)...

FROM TODAY'S READING (4/30/2015)...

Never make excuses. Your friends don't need them and your foes won't believe them.
- John Wooden (coach)

Proverbs 28:13-14 (NLT) People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy. Blessed are those who fear to do wrong, but the stubborn are headed for serious trouble.

Proverbs 17:28 (NLT)...

FROM TODAY'S READING (4/29/2015)...

The difference between a wise and foolish man is this--the former sees much, thinks much, and speaks little; but the latter speaks more than he either sees or thinks.
- William Scott Downey

Proverbs 17:28 (NLT) Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent; with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.

Proverbs 18:2 (NLT) Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions.

Proverbs 29:11 (NLT) Fools vent their anger, but the wise quietly hold it back.

Proverbs 14:23 (NLT)..,

FROM TODAY'S READING (4/28/2015)...

"Your life is not a snapshot, it is a filmstrip. If you don't like where you are, do something."
~ Dave Ramsey

Proverbs 14:23 (NLT) Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty!

Psalm 34:1-6 (NLT)...

FROM TODAY'S READING (4/27/2015)...

Happy moments, praise God.
Difficult moments, seek God.
Quiet moments, worship God.
Painful moments, trust God.
Every moment, thank God.

Psalms 34:1-6 (NLT) I will praise the LORD at all times. I will constantly speak his praises. I will boast only in the LORD; let all who are helpless take heart. Come, let us tell of the LORD’s greatness; let us exalt his name together. I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. In my desperation I prayed, and the LORD listened; he saved me from all my troubles.

Proverbs 13:16-21 (NLT)...

FROM TODAY'S READING (4/23/2015)...

Life is 10% of what happens to you, and 90% of what you do about it.
- Unknown

Proverbs 13:16-21 (NLT) Wise people think before they act; fools don’t—and even brag about their foolishness.
An unreliable messenger stumbles into trouble, but a reliable messenger brings healing.
If you ignore criticism, you will end in poverty and disgrace; if you accept correction, you will be honored.
It is pleasant to see dreams come true, but fools refuse to turn from evil to attain them.
Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.
Trouble chases sinners, while blessings reward the righteous.

1 Corinthians 9:24-25, 27 (NLT)...

FROM TODAY'S READING (4/22/2015)...

"There are no traffic jams along the extra mile."
- Roger Staubach (Dallas Cowboys 1969-1979)

1 Corinthians 9:24-25, 27 (NLT) Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.
I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

Ecclesiastes 9:10 (NLT)...

FROM TODAY'S READING 4/20/2015)...

MY JOB HISTORY...
... My first job was working in an orange juice factory, but I got canned...couldn't concentrate.
...Then I worked in the woods as a lumberjack, but I just couldn't hack it, so they gave me the ax.
...After that I tried to be a tailor, but I just wasn't suited for it...mainly because it was a so-so job.
...Next I tried working in a muffler factory but that was too exhausting. I wanted to be a barber, but I just couldn't cut it.
...Then I tried to be a chef--figured it would add a little spice to my life but I just didn't have the thyme.
...I attempted to be a deli worker, but any way I sliced it, I couldn't cut the mustard.
...My best job was being a musician, but eventually I found I wasn't noteworthy.
...I studied a long time to become a doctor, but I didn't have any patience.
...Next was a job in a shoe factory--I tried but I just didn't fit in.
...I became a professional fisherman, but discovered that I couldn't live on my net income.
...I managed to get a good job working for a pool maintenance company, but the work way just too draining.

...I got a job at a zoo feeding giraffes, but I was fired because I wasn’t up to it.

...So then I got a job in a workout center, but they said I wasn't fit for the job.

...After many years of trying to find steady work, I finally got a job as a historian until I realized there was no future in it.

...My last job was working at Starbucks, but I had to quit because it was always the same old grind.

...So, then I retired...and found out I was perfect for the job!

Ecclesiastes 9:10 (NLT) Whatever you do, do well. For when you go to the grave, there will be no work or planning or knowledge or wisdom.

Matthew 6:19-21 (NLT)...

FROM TODAY'S READING (4/17/2015)...

"He who lays up treasures on earth spends his life backing away from his treasures. To him, death is loss. He who lays up treasures in heaven looks forward to eternity; he’s moving daily toward his treasures. To him, death is gain."
- Randy Alcorn

Matthew 6:19-21 (NLT)  Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

Matthew 25:34-40 (NLT)...

FROM TODAY'S READING (4/15/2015)...

After a speech, pro-life activist Penny Lea was approached by an old man. Weeping, he told her the following story:

"I lived in Germany during the Nazi holocaust. I considered myself a Christian. I attended church since I was a small boy. We had heard the stories of what was happening to the Jews, but like most people today in this country, we tried to distance ourselves from the reality of what was really taking place. What could anyone do to stop it?

A railroad track ran behind our small church, and each Sunday morning we would hear the whistle from a distance and then the clacking of the wheels moving over the track. We became disturbed when one Sunday we noticed cries coming from the train as it passed by. We grimly realized that the train was carrying Jews. They were like cattle in those cars!

Week after week that train whistle would blow. We would dread to hear the sound of those old wheels because we knew that the Jews would begin to cry out to us as they passed our church. It was so terribly disturbing! We could do nothing to help these poor miserable people, yet their screams tormented us. We knew exactly at what time that whistle would blow, and we decided the only way to keep from being so disturbed by the cries was to start singing our hymns. By the time that train came rumbling past the church yard, we were singing at the top of our voices. If some of the screams reached our ears, we'd just sing a little louder until we could hear them no more. Years have passed and no one talks about it much anymore, but I still hear that train whistle in my sleep. I can still hear them crying out for help. God forgive all of us who called ourselves Christians, yet did nothing to intervene.

"Their screams tormented us . . . If some of their screams reached our ears we'd just sing a little louder."

Matthew 25:34-40 (NLT) Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’
Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’
And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’

Colossians 3:1-4 (NLT)..,

FROM TODAY'S READING (4/14/2015)...

Aim at heaven and you will get earth thrown in. Aim at earth and you get neither.
– C.S. Lewis

Colossians 3:1-4 (NLT) Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.

Psalm 27:1-3 (NLT).,,

FROM TODAY'S READING (4/9/2015)...

FROM MY WIFE'S BIBLE...

Fear is the darkroom where negatives are developed.

Psalms 27:1-3 (NLT) The LORD is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble? When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident.

1 Corinthians 13:10-12 (NLT)...

FROM TODAY'S READING (4/8/2015)...

"I can see, and that is why I can be happy, in what you call the dark, but which to me is golden. I can see a God-made world, not a man-made world."

"It is a terrible thing to see and have no vision."
- Hellen Keller

1 Corinthians 13:12 (NLT) Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.

1 Thessalonians 1:8-10 (NLT)..,

FROM TODAY'S READING (4/7/2015)...

FROM MY WIFE'S BIBLE...

"Every heart with Christ, a missionary. Every heart without Christ, a mission field."
- Dick Ellis (1913-2005)

1 Thessalonians 1:8-10 (NLT) And now the word of the Lord is ringing out from you to people everywhere, even beyond Macedonia and Achaia, for wherever we go we find people telling us about your faith in God. We don’t need to tell them about it, for they keep talking about the wonderful welcome you gave us and how you turned away from idols to serve the living and true God. And they speak of how you are looking forward to the coming of God’s Son from heaven—Jesus, whom God raised from the dead. He is the one who has rescued us from the terrors of the coming judgment.

Romans 15:20-22 (NLT)...

FROM TODAY'S READING (4/6/2015)...

FROM MY WIFE'S BIBLE...

"If you have men who will only come if they know there is a good road, I don't want them. I want men who will come if there is no road at all."
- David Livingston (Missionary to Africa)

Romans 15:20-22 (NLT) My ambition has always been to preach the Good News where the name of Christ has never been heard, rather than where a church has already been started by someone else. I have been following the plan spoken of in the Scriptures, where it says, “Those who have never been told about him will see, and those who have never heard of him will understand.” In fact, my visit to you has been delayed so long because I have been preaching in these places.

John 11:25-26 (NLT)...

FROM TODAY'S READING (4/2/2015)...

GRAVE STONE: "As I am now, you soon will be, so be content to follow me."
NOTE ON GRAVE STONE: "To follow you I'm not content, until I know which way you went."

John 11:25-26 (NLT) ..."I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this,...?”
