Proverbs 11:14 (NLT)...

FROM TODAY'S READING (11/6/2018)...

“When you become entitled to exercise the right of voting for public officers, let it be impressed on your mind that God commands you to choose for rulers, “just men who will rule in the fear of God.” The preservation of government depends on the faithful discharge of this duty;  if the citizens neglect their duty and place unprincipled men in office, the government will soon be corrupted;  laws will be made, not for the public good so much as for selfish or local purposes;  corrupt or incompetent men will be appointed to execute the laws;  the public revenues will be squandered on unworthy men; and the rights of the citizens will be violated or disregarded. If a republican government fails to secure public prosperity and happiness, it must be because the citizens neglect the divine commands, and elect bad men to make and administer the laws.”

Noah Webster (1758-1843) Advisor to the Founding Fathers, statesman, educator, lexicographer and author of Webster’s Dictionary. History of the United States (New Haven: Durrie & Peck, 1832), pp. 336-337, 349.

Proverbs 11:14 (NLT) Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisers.

1 Peter 2:13-17 (NLT) For the Lord’s sake, submit to all human authority—whether the king as head of state, or the officials he has appointed. For the king has sent them to punish those who do wrong and to honor those who do right.

It is God’s will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusations against you. For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil. Respect everyone, and love the family of believers. Fear God, and respect the king.

1 Timothy 2:1-4 (NLT)...

FROM TODAY'S READING (11/5/2018)...

“Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn't mean politics won't take an interest in you.”

Pericles

1 Timothy 2:1-4 NLT I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.

Ecclesiastes 3:1, 4-7 (NLT)...

FROM TODAY'S READING (11/2/2018)...

“When you have got an elephant by the hind legs and he is trying to run away, it’s best to let him run.”

Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865)

Ecclesiastes 3:1, 4-7 (NLT) For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.

A time to cry and a time to laugh.

A time to grieve and a time to dance.

A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.

A time to embrace and a time to turn away.

A time to search and a time to quit searching.

A time to keep and a time to throw away.

A time to tear and a time to mend.

A time to be quiet and a time to speak.

James 2:14-17 (NLT)...

FROM TODAY'S READING (11/1/2018)...

“It is good to dream, but it is better to dream and work. Faith is mighty, but action with faith is mightier. Desiring is helpful, but work and desire are invincible.”

Thomas Robert Gaines

James 2:14-17 (NLT) What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

Colossians 3:17 (NIV)...

FROM TODAY'S READING (10/31/2018)...

“We live in deeds, not years; in thoughts, not figures on a dial. We should count time by heart throbs. He most lives who thinks most, feels the noblest, acts the best.”

Philip James Bailey

Colossians 3:17 (NIV) And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Proverbs 25:28 (NLT)...

FROM TODAY'S READING (10/30/2018)...

A. J. Kitt

Proverbs 25:28 NLT A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.

2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV) ...for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

Romans 15:3-6 (NLT)...

FROM TODAY'S READING (10/29/2018)...

“The cynic is one who never sees a good quality in a man and never fails to see a bad one.  He is the human owl, vigilant in darkness and blind to light; mousing for vermin and never seeing noble game.”

Henry Ward Beecher

Romans 15:3-6 (NLT) For even Christ didn’t live to please himself. As the Scriptures say, The insults of those who insult you, O God, have fallen on me.” Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled.

May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus. Then all of you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
