FROM TODAY’S READING (7/20/2020)...
“Grave Soaking.” Ever heard of it? I landed upon this practice while reading this past week. It is the misguided, though seemingly well-intended, practice of physically laying on the grave of noted deceased giants of the Christian Faith. It carries the belief that the spiritual anointing of one of these deceased memorable individuals can be reclaimed and used by a passionate “grave soaker.” Left “unclaimed,” their anointing and/or power is wasted.
The point of this FTR post is not to denigrate someone’s sincere passion to serve Christ...regardless of how obviously unbiblical the practice may be and is. The point is to encourage biblical understanding of and appreciation for God’s indwelling Holy Spirit in the life of every sincere follower of Christ, and encouragement to daily yield oneself to His control.
Yes, by all means, soak up what you can from other (living and deceased) inspiring Spirit-filled Christians. But determine on a daily basis to personally soak up God’s Spirit via prayerful guidance of His Word and obedience to it.

Romans 12:1-2 (NLT) And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NLT) Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
Galatians 2:20 (NLT) My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Ephesians 5:15-20 (NIV) Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
